OVERVIEW

What is Bathroom Waterproofing?

Bathroom waterproofing is a concealed, flexible membrane system applied to the floor and lower walls of a wet area before tiling, so water that passes through grout and tile joints is stopped at the membrane instead of soaking into the slab. The hardest part of a bathroom is never the open floor — it is the corners, the wall-to-floor junctions, the floor drain and every pipe penetration, where almost all leaks begin. POLYZEN seals these with a reinforcing band and collar, then builds a two-coat flexible cementitious membrane that bridges hairline cracks and bonds tile adhesive on top — stopping the slow seepage that stains ceilings below and damages adjacent rooms.

THE POLYZEN SYSTEM

How the System Is Built

A bathroom is sealed at its weak points first, then membraned across the whole wet area before tiling. Tap any layer to see its role.

Tile-Ready Bonding Surface

Receives Adhesive

The cured membrane provides a sound, bondable surface that accepts tile adhesive directly, so tiling proceeds normally over a fully sealed wet area with no loss of bond. System values: Per TDS.

POLYZEN APPLIED SYSTEM

Engineered & Installed by POLYZEN

Bathroom waterproofing is delivered as a POLYZEN Applied System — surveyed, designed and installed turnkey by POLYZEN's trained applicators, with membrane, banding and drain detailing specified to your wet area before tiling.

04
WHY IT WORKS

Sealed Where Leaks Begin

Tiles and grout are not waterproof — water passes through the joints every day. A bathroom stays dry only if a continuous membrane sits behind the tiles and is detailed correctly at corners, drains and penetrations. That detailing is where POLYZEN's system earns its warranty. Performance is confirmed on the project specification.

Per Project Specification

Membrane type, number of coats, upstand height and detailing are specified per wet-area layout and exposure. POLYZEN confirms finished values on the project specification and does not publish fabricated figures.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What is bathroom waterproofing?
It is a concealed, flexible membrane applied to the floor and lower walls of a wet area before tiling. Because tiles and grout let water through their joints, the membrane behind them — detailed at corners, drains and pipe penetrations — is what actually keeps the bathroom and the rooms below it dry.
Is waterproofing applied before or after tiling?
It is applied before tiling. The flexible membrane goes onto the prepared screed and wall upstands, corners and drains are banded and collared, and once it is cured and flood-tested the tiles are laid directly over it. This is why doing it properly the first time avoids breaking tiles later.
How high up the walls should waterproofing go?
As a minimum the membrane turns up the walls along the full wet zone, and in showers it is taken higher up the splash area. POLYZEN sets the exact upstand height during survey based on the layout, shower position and how the wet area is used.
Can an existing leaking bathroom be fixed without full demolition?
In some cases a surface-applied system over existing tiles can help, but where the leak is at the drains, corners or failed screed, a longer-lasting result needs the tiles lifted, the substrate repaired and the area re-waterproofed. POLYZEN assesses the source during survey and recommends the most durable option.
Is this a POLYZEN product?
Bathroom waterproofing is delivered as a POLYZEN Applied System — surveyed, designed and installed turnkey by POLYZEN. Membrane type, banding and drain detailing are specified to your wet area during survey.
Does POLYZEN provide a warranty?
Yes. Every installation is flood/ponding tested before tiling and handed over with a final inspection and a written system warranty, with terms confirmed per project scope and substrate condition.
