ZENDÉCOR — Common Questions

What is the difference between Aura, Veina, Fleck and Quartz?

Aura is a pigmented metallic epoxy that gives a seamless floor with shifting three-dimensional depth and a high-gloss sheen. Veina is a veined epoxy that recreates the look of marble and stone. Fleck is a flake, or vinyl chip, system. Quartz is a broadcast of hard quartz granules, and is the most hard-wearing of the four. The visual and practical differences are compared in metallic versus flake versus quartz epoxy.

Is a decorative epoxy floor durable enough for real use?

It depends which finish and where. Quartz and flake systems carry traffic well because the broadcast layer takes the wear, while metallic and veined finishes are chosen for appearance and show scratches and scuffing sooner in a busy area. A showroom floor and a workshop floor are not the same specification even when both are epoxy.

Where should a decorative floor not be used?

Anywhere the duty is heavier than the look. Hot washdown, steam cleaning, thermal cycling, forklift traffic and aggressive chemical spillage all call for an industrial system rather than a decorative one. If a space has to look good and still take punishment, say so early so the finish is chosen around the duty and not the other way round.

How much does the finished floor vary from a sample?

With metallic and veined systems, every floor is different by nature. The pigment movement and veining are created during application, so a sample shows the character and the colour family rather than an exact pattern that will be reproduced. Flake and quartz finishes are far more predictable because the broadcast is uniform.

Can a decorative floor be laid over an existing floor?

Only if the base is sound and properly prepared, and decorative finishes are less forgiving than industrial ones because every defect below shows through a gloss surface. The slab is tested for moisture and mechanically prepared first. Our guide to concrete surface preparation covers what that means in practice.

How long will a decorative epoxy floor last?

Longer than most people expect where it is specified for the right duty, and much less where it is not. Cleaning regime, traffic type, UV exposure through glazing and the quality of the original preparation all decide it. What actually shortens the life of an epoxy floor is set out in how long epoxy flooring lasts.

What does a ZENDÉCOR floor cost?

The finish changes the answer as much as the area does: a flake or quartz broadcast, a veined system and a metallic pour are different amounts of material and different amounts of labour.
